Progress report Mai 2020 - sat in the plane for the first time

Image
I've been working on several section since last time. The stick together with the pushrods to the elevator, the fresh air vents, completed installation of the avionics access panel, fabricated two plates/platforms for avionics in front of the sub panel, "reconfigured" the trolley, and started to work on section 38 Canopy and Window. I also waiting for the autopilot servos (Garmin GSA 28), but they seems to be stuck in Chicago. It's almost 30 days since they were shipped from Steinair. So if nothing happens before end of week, it will be reported as lost. Steinair has been helpful, and has assured me that the shipment is fully insured. I have also ordered the wing kit, but has still not received a expected shipment date. Originally my intention was to buy quick built wings, but the covid-19 situation changed my mind. Hopefully they should arrive in September, and that will give me plenty of time to build them during the winter. Kind of a milestone to sit in t...

OP-44 Access panel installation

Image
Vans did recently publish an access panel installation kit. It makes it easier to access the avionics bay from the outside. I've made the cut and is ready for priming and attachment. I spent some time figuring out how to cut the hole in the best way. In the end, I found my Dremel DSM20 multi cutter to work best. It cuts the aluminium like butter.

Section 34 Flap actuation system

Today I did the final work on the flap actuation system by installing the flap motor and and flap position sensor. Flap motor test😀

Section 33 rudder & brake systems

Image
Section 33 rudder and brake systems was completed today. I think I saved quite some work with pre-fabricated brake lines from Aircraft Speciality, but the parking brake system added some extra effort.  The result! Trial fit of the parking brake valve bracket. The Matco brake valve on top of the bracket. Later I also included an extension to hold the control cable . I needed a angle drill to upsize the routing holes in the seating ribs.  More challenging with the holes through the center section bulkhead. I just taped the step drill to my extended back rivet sets.   This is the completed parking brake valve mounted on the bracket.

Update 2020 week 16 - Cockpit area painted!

Image
Finally I got the interior painted. It was a lot of work with masking of both the fuselage and the garage. I also had to move my air filtration system in the paint booth to the garage. See pictures below. Access panel kit VANs has released an access panel kit that I ordered together with the alignment template that I was missing. It will make it easier to access avionics. 34 Flap actuation system I got the  alignment template from VAN and could complete the flap actuation system. 37 Roll over structure While waiting for the flatenner for the cockpit paint, I completed most of section 37. It was a lot to drill, but it went along quite easy. 36 Aileron and elevator system All the pushrod for section 36 is fabricated and primed inside and out. The stick is also drilled and ready to be mounted. Legg til bildetekst 33 Rudders The rudder pedals are now all complete with fittings ready to be installed after painting...
